Why is Home-Start Hertfordshire closing?

Like many small charities, we have faced rising running costs and falling income. Despite the very best efforts of our trustees, staff and volunteers, and the generosity of our supporters, we can no longer continue in a financially sustainable way. We have also been unable to carry our partnership with Herts Mind into another form. We are very grateful to Herts Mind for helping us to keep going over the last year.

When will you close?

We expect to stop delivering services by the end of November and to complete the wind-down next year. These dates are our best current estimate, and we will update this page if anything changes.

I am a family you support. What happens now?

We will keep supporting you for as long as we can, until the end of November. Your worker or volunteer will speak to you personally about what this means and will help you find other support. If you are worried about anything, please contact us now. You don’t need to wait for us to get in touch.

I refer families to you. What should I do?

We are no longer accepting new referrals. Please use other local services for families who need support and remove Home-Start Hertfordshire from your referral lists and materials. For anything urgent, please use your usual statutory or specialist routes.

I am a volunteer. What happens to my role?

We will be communicating to every volunteer. We are very grateful for everything you have given, and we are happy to provide a reference or a letter confirming your volunteering.

Can I still donate?

Please do not make any further donations. Online giving has been switched off. If you have a regular payment set up, please cancel it]. If you have donated recently and have questions, please get in touch.

I am a funder or sponsor. Who should I contact?

We are contacting all funders and sponsors directly about their arrangements and any funds we hold. 

What will happen to any money left in the charity?

We will settle all our liabilities first. Any remaining funds will be dealt with in line with our governing document and Charity Commission guidance. We have also told the Charity Commission of our decision.

What will happen to families’ records and personal information?

We will keep, transfer or securely destroy records in line with our policies and data protection law.
