Creating a reliable, sustainable flow of funds to provide vital support for vulnerable families is an ongoing challenge. As a small charity, we rely heavily on the fundraising efforts of our local Hertfordshire community and are always looking for people to help run or initiate new fundraising events and activities. Your support and time really can make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and families living in the area.
Fundraising Tips:
- Make it interesting, think outside the box and capture peoples imagination – The success of your fundraising campaign or sponsored event depends largely on how much attention you can generate. The more people who are actually interested in what you are doing, the more sponsorship you can generate.
- Tell a story and make it personal – Why are you fundraising for Home-Start Herts, have you had a personal experience, or do you know someone who has?
- Set up a fundraising page – add your story and share, share, share! (we recommend Virgin Giving)
- Let us know what you are doing so we can shout about your fabulous fundraising venture. We will also be on hand to offer help or support.

Challenges – There are lots of exciting and fun challenge events available; some that test your stamina and fitness, some that are mucky, and of course, those that are all about the adrenaline rush!

Do something you love like inviting friends round for a party, afternoon tea or a games night.
A summer BBQ always goes down well, you could event have a theme and fancy dress competition!
There are lots of things you could do as a family too:
– collect your lose change/£1 coins
– Do a collection instead of gifts, at a celebration (wedding, birthday, graduation)
– Shave your head/beard
– Give something up and donate the cost (glass of wine, magazine)
Bring people together to help set up a community fundraiser, it can be a good way to get to build networks and involve people who may be isolated or lonely………………………………….
It is amazing just how much energy and enthusiasm a group can build, and you can go as big or as small as you want.

Fundraising as a group really builds team spirit.
Being involved in fundraising enhances children/young people’s social and emotional development. They learn valuable life skills that help them to become caring and compassionate members of society. It’s a win for our families and it’s a win for the kids!
Nurseries – Fundraising for Home-Start can be a great way of prompting discussion around families being different.
Activities can include:
– A dress up or themed day
– A collection at the Christmas party or play
– Teddy bears picnic
– Coffee morning
– Sponsored toddle
– a small collection box to take home and fill up
Schools – fundraising is a great way to introduce social responsibility and diversity.
Activity ideas:
– Dress down day or themed day
– Collection at events and concerts
– Set an apprentice-like challenge where students have to make something and sell it
– Get older students to put on a movie evening for the younger students
– Students doing art or photography to set up an exhibition
– Donate money made from the sale of second hand uniforms
